Work is continuing at the upcoming 1 Hotel Hanalei Bay, the reimagined hotel formerly known as the St. Regis Princeville Resort on Kauai’s Puu Poa Beach in Princeville.
Starwood Hotels and Resorts bought the property and the adjacent Makai Golf Course in November 2018 for a reported $250 million and is now moving forward with the makeover.
The St. Regis Princeville Resort was already a high-end destination and Starwood intends to take the property to an even higher level. The new “wellness resort and sustainable sanctuary” will blend in to its surroundings with some sort of natural facade, though it’s not clear yet to the public on how that will be accomplished.
1 Hotel Hanalei Bay is now taking reservations for Summer 2022 with nightly rates starting at $1,200 a night.
Nene birds seem to be enjoying the decreased number of visitors to the beach.
A large tent-like canopy has been constructed on the roof, but it’s not clear if that is part of the new design or a construction aid.
The parking lot has been fenced off at the end of Ka Haku Road while construction is ongoing. Public access pathways to Puu Poa Beach and the Fort Alexander Trail can be found to the left and the right of the fence. (The Fort Alexander Trail is an alternative, little-used and possibly dangerous path to the Hideaways Beach area.)
Will the hotel be ready by the summer of 2022? We will keep you updated with the latest news about 1 Hotel Hanalei Bay.
