‘Baby Shark’ Closes Large Pond at Lydgate

Ocean Safety officials are advising no swimming in the large pond at Kauai’s Lydgate Beach Park until further notice due to reports of a baby shark that is unable to swim out to sea, reports the County of Kauai.

On Tuesday, August 10th, 2021, officials were notified that a shark, approximately 2-feet long, was seen swimming in the large pond at Lydgate Beach Park.

Officials with the Department of Land and Natural Resources-Division of Aquatic Resources are working on a plan to safely capture and relocate the shark back into the ocean. Until then, beachgoers are asked to follow all posted warning signs and advisories.
