Kauai Travel Blog took a journey to the center of Kauai, near the island’s mystical Blue Hole, in the summer of 2016. Traveling down Loop Road from the Keahua Arboretum, we witnessed a scene straight out of Jurassic Park (literally). After passing the remains of the actual Jurassic Park Gate, we ventured farther into the interior. At the end of the road we found a group of men, women and children having a picnic at the island’s ultimate party location, on the weir concrete dam. (The dam is also used to prevent flooding by diverting water from the Wailua River.) To get there, follow the directions on our Jurassic Park Gate page and keep going down the road past the gate either by four wheel drive vehicle, dirt bike or on foot. Venturing to this point is probably the closest you’ll ever come to a prehistoric Jurassic Park experience. We wouldn’t have been surprised to see some pterodactyls flying overhead.
