Signs and utility poles across Kauai are covered in stickers advertising brands, beliefs and events.
The placing of stickers on signs is considered vandalism and violators can be subject to fines and other penalties. However, the practice is ongoing. Some consider the stickers to be a part of the island’s surf culture vibe. Others see it as pure vandalism on par with graffiti.
Here at Kauai Travel Blog we don’t condone the practice, but we do enjoy checking out the artwork and perusing the advertisements of stuff we wouldn’t normally see in the Mainstream Media. More than a few of the stickers appear to represent “underground” or “sub-culture” activities, and it can be interesting Googling some of the lesser-known brands and fringe elements found on the stickers.
