Kauai Transportation Improvement Budget 2019-2022

The Hawaii Department of Transportation has posted a “wish list” for Kauai transportation projects for the period 2019-2022. The list was developed before the mid-April 2018 flooding that will undoubtedly result in additional costs, projects and repairs. The Statewide Transportation Improvement Program (STIP) draft for the island of Kauai includes $6,500,000 for repairs to the Hanalei Bridge to replace and remove deteriorated steel and paint. Also on the draft are projects to help alleviate traffic congestion in the Kapaa area. Funds for the projects will come from the federal government but it’s likely not all projects will be funded or fully funded. The Hawaii Department of Transportation will be accepting public input on the 2019-2022 draft until June 18, 2018. Below is the “wish list” of projects and their costs.
