Laysan Albatrosses can often be seen on the Moloa’a Bay Ranch Coastal Trail between the months of October and July. In early 2017 we encountered a group of Laysan Albatrosses nesting on a hill overlooking the trail. We didn’t want to get too close, but that didn’t seem to be a problem for one albatross who landed in front of us, then took off in the greatest fashion (photos below). Maybe the bird was checking to see if we had some food to offer, but it sure looked like the bird was just showing off!
