Crews have recently removed the majority of the debris from the wading pools at Lydgate Beach Park, though much debris still remains along the surrounding coastline. The debris, mostly logs and tree limbs, washed down from the interior of Kauai on the Wailua River during flooding in April 2018.
Lydgate Beach Park is a popular destination for Kauai families and tourists alike. The two wading pools are a big draw, offering families and children a protected snorkeling and swimming area from the open ocean.
Crews from Kauai Veterans Express and Kai Trucking are removing the debris under a $90,000 contract from the Kauai Parks and Recreation Department.
The cleanup of Lydgate Beach Park is an ongoing effort and volunteers are always welcome. The Friends of Kamalani and Lydgate host a volunteer beach clean up every Saturday starting at 8:30AM.
