Two Rescues on Kalalau Trail

Kauai first responders have conducted two rescues on the island’s Kalalau Trail in recent days, reports the County of Kauai.

The first rescue took place on Saturday, October 2nd, 2021 near Hanakapiai Beach. Personnel were notified around 3:40 PM of a 71-year-old Arizona man who reportedly fell and injured his leg and shoulder while hiking along the Hanakapiai Trail. Rescue 3 personnel aboard Air 1 were dispatched to the man’s location at Hanakapiai Beach. The injured hiker was transported by air to the Princeville Airport where awaiting Hanalei firefighters and AMR medics provided additional support and treatment.

The next day, on Sunday morning, firefighters airlifted an injured 20-year-old California woman from Kalalau Beach. First responders were notified of the injured hiker at approximately 7:40 AM. However, due to dangerous weather conditions, Rescue 3 personnel could not immediately respond by helicopter to the remote location. Once the weather cleared, Rescue 3 aboard Air 1 flew to Kalalau Beach and located the woman who had sustained a leg injury. She was also airlifted to Princeville Airport for medical treatment.
