The Coconut Marketplace open-air shopping mall in Kapaa, Kauai features a nice array of quality shops, eateries, Hawaiian entertainment and a farmers market. Located in a coconut grove on Highway 56 soon after you enter Kapaa, you might be tempted to drive on by. But the newly renovated marketplace has a lot to offer for both locals and visitors.
The flagship store of the marketplace is Island Country Markets. This is an ABC Store where you will want to stock up on all your island needs including gifts, souvenirs, lotions, towels, logo apparel, wine and much more. A full-service deli inside the store offers fresh salads, gourmet sandwiches and flatbread pizzas.
A number of smaller shops at the mall have quality gifts and souvenirs unique to the island. Don’t miss Auntie Lynda’s Treasures with a nice selection of island jewelry and items produced by local artisans. Also be sure to check out Elephant Walk gift gallery and boutique, Jungle Rain, Del Sol and other unique shops that can be found with a stroll around the mall.
There are several food choices at Coconut Marketplace. You may have seen advertisements for Bobby V’s Italian Restaurant Pizzeria, and Coconut Marketplace is the location for this popular hangout. Kauai favorite Chicken in a Barrel also has a location at the marketplace. For a treat or dessert, you can’t go wrong with Jojo’s Shave Ice.
Free and fun Hawaiian entertainment is also on display at the Coconut Marketplace. An authentic Hula Show is held every Wednesday at 5 PM and Saturday at 1PM. On Fridays at 5 PM enjoy live Hawaiian music from musical legend Larry Rivera.
If you’re looking for fresh island fruit and vegetables you’re in luck. A farmer’s market is held every Tuesday and Thursday from 9 AM to 1 PM in the front parking lot.
